National Apology Day Activities were coordinated by the Illawarra Women's Group at Windang on Thursday 25th February.  Tahlee Parson, Jessie Ingram and Courtney Walsh attended and enjoyed the opportunity to meet with other school groups, elders and community leaders. They learnt how to weave with natural materials while listening to women's stories.

The Illawarra Koori Men's Support Group also hosted National Apology Day activities to commemorate our stolen generations.  Deekyn Hockey, Andrew Carter and Anthony Pietrobelli participated in a smoking ceremony and assisted with tree planting.

Kevin Rudd in 2008 made an Apology to the Indigenous peoples of this land. He reflected in particular on the mistreatment of those who were Stolen Generations.

"We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country. For the pain, suffering and hurt of these stolen generations, their descendants and for their families left behind. We say sorry."  Excerpt from The Apology. Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Wednesday, February 13, 2008.
