53 Year 9 students took advantage of the opportunity to attend the Illawarra Trades Roadshow at the Five Islands Senior College to learn about a variety of non-university and trade career options. Students were also able to speak with qualified personnel to answer any queries they had in relation to training and job opportunities.
Tradespeople and apprentices from a diverse range of trades including: Carpentry Plumbing, Electro-Technology, Mechanical Technology, Automotive, Hospitality, Bricklaying, Horticulture, Animal Science, Business Administration, Nursing, Hairdressing plus more presented interactive experiences. Students had hands on experiences when bricklaying, preparing yummy scones and biscuits, tasting barista prepared drinks, electrical wiring, welding metals, hair styling, checking blood pressure, trying decorative painting techniques, typing tests, panel repairs, air brushing plus much more.
As a result of attending and participating in the Illawarra Trades Roadshow, students will be better informed of the wide range of opportunities available to them when they leave school and transition into the workforce. They will also be better informed when making decisions about their pathway of study for the HSC. Students can consider Vocational Educational and Training (VET) courses offered at school and TAFE and also School based Apprenticeship and Traineeship options.
