We currently have one of our Year 11 students over in the US competing in the World Ringside Championships. Sam Goodman, of Year 11, is over in Kansas City for 3 weeks competing in the 56kg division in the 16-18 years age group. This has been funded by the PCYC Academy.
Sam has had plenty of success already in his young boxing career. Some of his achievement include:
- Winning State titles in the 16-18 years 56kg division
- Finishing 2nd in the Australian title in the 16-18 years 56kg division
- Currently holding the Golden Gloves title- which is the biggest open tournament for 16-18 year olds
- Currently holding the Southeast Qld title in the 16-18 years 56kg division
Sam was also competing for a spot in the upcoming Commonwealth Games team in the 16-18 years 56kg division. Despite beating some of his rivals, Sam was not selected for this team after a controversial decision, but Sam has vowed to keep persisting with his rigorous training regime in the hope he can make the team at his next attempt.
We wish Sam all the best of luck. I'm sure he will do his school and family proud.
